Replacing a Flat roof that holds water

  1. Top picture is of a flat roof that holds a good amount of water. Called ponding water, that shortens the life of a flat roof and should a leak occur, the more damage it could cause. That situation can be addressed when the roof is replaced. The use of tapered insulation provides positive slope to the roof and shedding the water. Usually it comes in 1/8" or 1/4" per foot graduated panels. This roof we used 1/4", the panels are cut to fit, screwed in place with special screws and plates that provide over -60lbs per square foot of wind uplift resistance. The surface is then primed with asphalt primer, and installing a two ply Flintlastic Modified Bitumen Self-Adhesive roof system. The flat roof covering extends about 12-14 inches under the Certainteed Landmark shingles for a watertight fit. Where all our materials were from Certainteed, the Sure Start warranty covers both flat roof and shingles.
